“Expensive backend cybersecurity products are worthless when the virtual front door has a lousy lock!”

Dovell Bonnett

The management of passwords is the real security nightmare.

User authentication is the most ignored risk to enterprise cybersecurity. When end users are allowed to generate, know, remember, type and manage their own passwords, IT has inadvertently surrendered the job title Network Security Manager to employees – the weakest link in the cybersecurity chain.

Dovell Bonnett reveals the truth about the elephant in the room that no one wants to mention: Expensive backend security is worthless when the virtual front door has a lousy lock! Making Passwords Secure breaks down THE SIMPLE TRUTH about Multi-Factor Authentication (and how to make MFA fast, easy and affordable)!

Dovell proves that making passwords secure is not only possible, passwords can actually become an effective, cost efficient and user friendly feature of robust cybersecurity. After examining how encryption keys are secured, this book introduces a new strategy called Password Authentication Infrastructure (PAI) that rivals digital certificates.

Passwords are not going away.
What needs to be fixed is how passwords are managed.

Dovell - smallDovell Bonnett has been creating computer security solutions for over 20 years. His passionate belief that technology should work for humans, and not the other way around, has lead him to create innovative solutions that protect businesses from cyber-attacks, free individual computer users from cumbersome security policies, and put IT administrators back in control of their networks.

He has spent most of his career designing solutions to solve business security needs, incorporating multiple applications onto single credentials using both contact and contactless smartcards. The most famous example of his work is the ID badge currently used by all Microsoft employees.

Dovell has contributed to numerous papers for the Smart Card Alliance organization; magazines, including Card Manufacturing Magazine; and is the author of two books, Online Identity Theft Protection for Dummies® and Making Passwords Secure: How to Fix the Weakest Link in Cybersecurity. Dovell is a frequent speaker and sought-after consultant on the topic of passwords, cybersecurity, and building secure, affordable and appropriate computer authentication infrastructures.

What other people have to say about Gord Sheppard

“Over the years, I have been part of numerous planning sessions, but I have to say that Gord’s ability to get straight to the point and see through all of the cloudiness is inspirational. He has an uncanny gift of being able to read individuals and situations, while bringing out their best in a very short amount of time. He helped us to produce great results that are truly actionable.”
Cynthia Annett, Board Chair
Special Olympics Edmonton

“Having gathered a group of smart and powerful people to consult on a potential new project, I was nervous; these were not people with time to waste. I put my trust in Gord to create a meeting that would make good use of the time they were spending in the room that day, and he did not disappoint. Somehow, he simultaneously fostered a relaxed and casual atmosphere while keeping us on topic and on schedule. He ushered us through an extremely productive and rewarding conversation but never gave us any feeling of being controlled or overly formal. Not only did we accomplish our objectives, several of my attendees commented to me afterwards on the quality of the meeting and the facilitation. I’m grateful to have had Gord in my corner that day.”

Talk Like a Leader – How To Make Difficult Conversations a Win-Win

Does the thought of having a difficult discussion with

  • an employee for performance review or
  • an employee for disciplinary action
  • a vendor to negotiate terms of contract
  • a patient who is abusive with your employees

Leave you feeling uncomfortable and . . . squirmy?

Grant Ainsley will help us understand the key steps to prepare for those difficult conversations.

In this FREE 30-minute Practice Management Nugget Webinar Grant Ainsley will help us prepare for difficult conversation with a vendor, with an employee, or with a patient.

It’s simply impossible to be a great leader without being a great communicator. Excelling in communication is consistently one of the highest rated traits of great leaders, but unfortunately communication skills are not inherited, or taught in business school.

Grant Ainsley says, “People won't care about how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Grant Ainsley is the author of The Honest Spin Doctor, a book that provides a road map to effective media relations for people who speak to the news media and the companies they work for. Grant_Ainsley_Photo_Communications_Talk_Like_A_Leader

Is this Exciting Privacy and Data Governance

Congress for You?

Privacy and Access Council of Canada offers a congress where delegates have a realistic opportunity to attend the sessions of interest. Plenaries and breakout sessions are longer than usual , and formal remarks are shorter, leaving time for speakers and delegates to engage in genuine conversation. And we ask speakers to offer practical guidance borne of their experience (not just theoretical advice or historical reviews) that delegates can put to work in their own organizations.

Learn, share and network at the 2016 National Privacy & Data Governance Congress. Join industry experts, risk management professionals, thought leaders and regulatory authorities to explore critical connections between privacy, access, security and compliance.

Join speakers, delegates and thought leaders with shared interests in privacy, access and security. Colleagues from public and private institutions, federal, provincial and territorial governments, industry, academia and regulatory authorities will meet in a relaxed setting to enjoy workshop, breakout, keynote and plenary sessions.

Congress 2016 takes a refreshingly practical approach. Breakout sessions are longer than at most conferences, but formal presentations are shorter. Speakers offer practical examples and case studies, but are discouraged from using PowerPoint or similar tools (or distractions).

Continuing Education Credits applicable to PACC Professional Certification, and may qualify for CPD credits from other organizations as well.

Who should attend the Privacy and Data Governance Congress?

  • privacy officer
  • security officer
  • access and disclosure administrators
  • compliance officer
  • FOIP Co-ordinators
  • human resources manager
  • insurance agents
  • healthcare administrators, health information management
  • medical ethicists and genetics

What previous attendees say

Interesting, new speakers — not the same folks saying the same things over and over. Executive Director, Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

I thought your event was the best event I have been to in years. It really was a mixed bag of different approaches with the workshops, keynotes and panel discussions. I also thought it was very honest and open discussion of serious issues that we face with privacy and access. You had advocates for leveraging private information to create greater convenience for the consumer as well as privacy advocates for doing whatever you can to protect your private information. Project Manager, Service Alberta.
